Who could have imagined that I would first encounter my spiritual
Master Teacher in Ocean City, Maryland? I
was participating in a workshop there, on Myofascial Unwinding,
taught by John Barnes, PT. Myofascial Unwinding is a powerful
healing modality that can facilitate a patient's spontaneous
movements, that often recapitulate positions associated with
past, unhealed traumas. Thus, I was learning to tap into an
intelligent force within the patient's body, which operates
separately from directed and voluntary movements.
This beautiful July morning, on a balcony overlooking the
Atlantic Ocean, I was practicing Tai Chi. This martial art
is performed as a sequence of precise, dance-like movements;
a moving meditation. For many years, on a daily basis, I had
been practicing both Tai Chi and Yoga. On this morning, however,
something I had never experienced before occurred and altered
my life forever.
While the sun's rays danced on the ocean waves, reflecting
countless tiny diamonds of light, I started my morning routine.
Suddenly a force I had never felt captivated my body. Without
effort or intention, I began going through a series of movements
that were graceful and slow, like moving through honey. Resembling
an oriental dance, they were powerful and smooth, yet intense.
Some movements were vigorous and precise and others long stretches.
Always involving deep breathing, they were cleansing, healing,
recharging, relaxing, and yet paradoxically, invigorating.
From a spiritual perspective, they were inspiring and uplifting.
As the movements continued, I felt increasingly joyous and
blissful. The energy that was transporting me opened my heart,
lifted my spirit, and filled me with ecstasy. My perception
of time stopped. In actuality, I remained in this state for
about 30 minutes.
Finally the movements, reverie and directing force I came
to a completion with a pronam, a forward bow of my body with
my hands held at my heart, pal ms together. To my inner gaze,
it was as if a small oriental man with long, gray braided hair
and beard was bowing to me. I felt his great respect and profound
humility, as he conveyed this message to my mind: "I thank
you for the opportunity to have lead you through these transformational
movements. My associates and I look forward to continuing to
teach you how to heal, recharge and rejuvenate your body and
expand your consciousness. As you progress, you will have opportunities
to pass these teachings on to others. We will be available
to you anytime you call upon us, as we will be to others who
wish to avail themselves of our services. It is with great
joy that we anticipate the association to follow. And so it
is."
As this great Being departed, I felt awed, tearful and overwhelmed.
This most humble, gentle, respectful and kind entity, had thanked
me for the opportunity have instructed me. I have since learned
that this is typical of the loving Chi Gung and Yoga teacher,
who is addressed by his students as Master Chia. It is interesting
to note that three independent psychics have similarly described
Master Chia from their perceptions of this entity within my
energy field.
The unique, simple and powerful principles and techniques
Master Chia has taught me are a combination of the Chi Gung
of China and the Yoga of India.
Chi Gung means energy work, or exercise, and has been practiced
in many forms by Orientals for millennia. The Taoists used
Chi Gung for healing, rejuvenation and longevity. The word
Yoga means union. The yogi practices to eventually merge with
Divine consciousness. The originators of these spiritual disciplines
received their instructions mystically. For example, the first
yogis, sitting quietly in mediation, suddenly felt their bodies
move. These divinely inspired movements would take them through
asanas or postures, and breathing exercises, which they later
taught to their students. The gift of spontaneous, automatic
movement is called pranotthana, a siddhi, power, or what I
have labeled Internally Guided Movement (IGM).
Inspired by Master Chia, IGM has been the most transforming
force in my life. I have made more progress during my time
with Master Chia than from all my years of previous practice.
For the first six months after my initial contact, I practiced
IGM 4 to 5 hours daily. Currently, I spend Ito 2 hours daily
practicing under the direction of Master Chia and his cadre
of teachers.
As stated above, each session with Master Chia has been unique,
but the principles behind this instruction have been consistent.
Master Chia has taught me how to clear my energy field and
recharge my chakras, drawing from and transmuting cosmic and
earth sources; this Master Chia calls Sacred Energy Alchemy.
Following are a few of these simple but powerful techniques.

Standing Power Pose
The foundation of transformational movement is the Standing
Power Pose. This pose is designed to realign the body, particularly
the pelvis, freeing the transmission of the kundalini, or spinal
energies to move up the spine to the higher centers in the
brain. This energy movement is often blocked because of misalignments
in the spine. This pose also enables the individual to connect
with both earth and cosmic energies, infuse them into the heart
center, transmute them to a higher energy, and direct them
to the chakras for recharging. This is the sacred energy alchemy
that makes you a link between heaven and earth.
Stand with your feet together and parallel to each other.
If this proves difficult, especially in the beginning, it is
acceptable to keep your feet separated, at shoulder width,
but make certain they are parallel to each other. Put as much
weight on the inside of each foot as on the outside. Put slightly
more weight on the ball of the foot than the heel. Each foot
is then solidly connected to the floor. Imagine growing roots
from the balls of your feet, directly into the center of the
earth, so that you can bring into your body earth chi or earth
energy.
Slightly soften and bend the knees to create an energetic
connection with the feet. Turn your tailbone under, while bringing
the belly button straight back behind the rib cage. The intention
is to bring the pelvis into alignment, parallel to the floor,
and support the torso. This movement aligns the lumbar vertebrae,
as if you were standing with your back flat against a wall.
Metaphorically, your alignment should bring your gut behind
your heart, and literally, the pubic bone behind the breastbone.
In other words, meet the world from your heart center, and
stop making your gut a target. Your arms hang at your sides,
palms facing back, and hands at the pocket seams. This encourages
the shoulders to move back, opening the heart center. Your
chin moves straight back, without lifting, and remains parallel
to the floor. Again, don't stick your chin out'. From the side
of the body, a plumb line could be lowered from the ear, bisecting
the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle.
As you practice the Standing Power Pose, and move into correct
alignment, breathe so you can hear yourself breathe. This raspy,
back of the throat breathing intensifies the absorption of
oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide, recharging the body.
If possible, breathe through the nose. This audible breathing
infuses you with life force. We live in a sea of chi, prana,
ki; all the same names for this life force. This force is most
accessible to us through deep breathing. Hold the Standing
Power Pose for approximately 2 minutes. A stretch held for
at least 2 minutes releases the connective tissue, initiating
and encouraging permanent postural change.
Initially, the Standing Power Pose feels awkward, uncomfortable,
and sometimes painful, because bodily restrictions that interfere
with your perfect alignment are challenged. The goal of this
position is to relax, turn off the voluntary use of muscle,
switch to the intrinsic 'anti-gravity' muscles, and stand effortlessly.
Gravity, an ever-present force, becomes oppressive when one
is misaligned. When the spine is correctly aligned, gravity
passes thoroughly the body unchallenged.
The Standing Power Pose can be used for standing meditation.
Relinquishing all voluntary effort to maintain verticality,
while breathing audibly and intensifying the absorption of
chi, you increase your vibrations. This higher frequency of
vibrations enhances the immune system, heals illnesses, and
expands consciousness. After a few minutes in this pose, your
body may start to move and sway. This is not due to a loss
of balance, but is the first sign that kundalini energy is
rising. The body moves because it is uniquely balanced; spinal
misalignments are corrected and connective tissue restrictions
are released. This movement is the beginning of pranotthana,
Internally Guided Movement or IGM.
The Standing Power Pose can be practiced at any time during
the day, not requiring any special time or place. As the pose
is held for longer periods, the spontaneous movement gets stronger.
In the initial stages of practice, it is better to do the pose
more frequently and for less time. Try 2 minutes each time,
five times a day. The Standing Power Pose is the foundation
for the energy generating positions and chakra recharging.

Energy Generating Positions
The energy generating positions draw energy from the earth
and the cosmos. Spiritual teachers have told us that aging
and illnesses are the result of the slowing and disharmony
within and between the chakras. Conversely, by increasing the
rate of movement of each chakra and harmonizing them, healing
and rejuvenation can occur. Master Chia has taught two energy
generating positions that can provide the power to accomplish
this. The first energy generating position brings earth chi
up through the soles of the feet through the lower half of
the body into the heart center. The second energy generating
position draws cosmic energy through the crown chakra, at the
top of the head, and down into the heart center. Earth chi
and cosmic chi are brought together within the crucible of
the heart chakra. Here they are synergistically transmuted.
The result of this Sacred Alchemy is a powerful, potentiated
energy that can be directed wherever desired. Although these
are simple techniques, do not underestimate their power.
First Energy Generating Position
In the Standing Power Pose, ex-tend your arms in front of
you, palms touching. Arms are held at 45 degrees from the shoulders.
Pressing the palms together, the pectoralis muscles are activated.
Knees are bent slightly, as if you are about to sit down. The
tongue is placed on the roof of the mouth, just behind the
front teeth. The pubococcygeus muscle (PC), which supports
the floor of the pelvis, is tightened. Each time palms touch,
throughout these techniques, the PC muscle is tightened. These
are the muscles used to stop the flow of urine, for males,
or what has been labeled the Kegel muscles for females. The
PC muscle is also known as the 'sex muscle', since the toning
of the muscle makes sex more pleasurable for both partners.
Gynecologists have suggested to women that they tense this
muscle 100 to 200 times a day. Males would similarly benefit
from such practice.
With the inhalation of the breath, visualize energy being
drawn up through the soles of the feet, up the lower half of
the body and into the heart chakra. With the exhalation, relax
the PC muscle and imagine that the heart chakra is spinning
like an ever-growing green vortex of energy, expanding into
the entire energy field.

Second Energy Generating Position
To move into the second energy generating position, simply
bend your elbows, pointing the fingers straight up, with the
forearms pressed together. Remember the PC muscle remains tight
while palms are touching. Inhale and visualize a cosmic stream
of energy pouring into the funnel-like chakra at the top of
the head, moving down through the neck into the heart chakra.
Exhale and relax the PC muscle, and imagine, as in the first
energy generating position, the heart chakra's growing green
vortex of energy.

Mudras
Now that the earth and the cosmic chi have been combined
and potentiated, you are ready to charge the individual chakras
using a sequence of mudras, or fixed or sealed positions involving
the hands or the entire body. In Master Chia's system, mudras
are central and powerful. These fixed or sealed positions close
a circuit that intensifies the energy within it. For example,
those who pray, sooner or later, place their palms together,
fingers straight up, and thumbs close to the heart. This position
known as namaskar, or folded hands, opens the heart chakra.

Charging the Chakras
First or Root - Touch the backs of the hands, point
the fingers straight down and place your thumbs on the pubic
bone. Inhale and draw the empowered, potentiated energy from
the heart chakra down the arms and into the hands. Exhale and
move the energy through your fingers and into the root chakra,
creating a vortex of red energy, which is expanding into your
energy field.
Second or Naval Chakra - From the previous position,
rotate the hands, touch fingertips and point them straight
down, with the thumbs level with the navel. This creates a
triangle over the second chakra. Inhale and draw the energy
from the heart down the arms and into the hands. Exhale moving
the energy into the space between the palms and into the second,
orange chakra. Visualize the spinning of the orange energy
into your energy field.
Third Chakra or Solar Plexus - Leave your thumbs in
place, and raise your fingers straight up, creating a triangle
over your solar plexus. Inhale and move the energy down your
arms and into the space between your hands. Exhale and move
the energy from the space between your hands into the yellow
chakra, and expand it as before.
Fourth or Heart Chakra - Raise the elbows, and rotate
the fingers to point the middle finger at the middle of the
breastbone. Inhale and move the heart chakra energy down the
arms and into the hands and fingers. Exhale and feed the empowered
energy back into the heart chakra. The vortex of green energy
expands into your energy field.
Fifth or Chakra - Raise the elbows and place the sides
of your little fingers against the throat. Inhale and move
the heart chakra energy down the arms and into the hands and
fingers. Exhale and transmit the energy into the throat chakra,
and expand the sky blue spinning vortex into the energy field.
Sixth Chakra or Mind Eye - Place the hands together,
palms touching, and the sides of the thumbs between the eyebrows.
Tighten the PC muscle. Raise the chin and bend slightly back.
Make sure that your weight sinks into your legs, knees soft,
and no pain is experienced in your lower back. Inhale, bringing
the heart chakra energy into your hands. Exhale, relax the
PC muscle and focus the energy into the indigo colored spinning
sixth chakra, and out into your energy field.
Seventh or Crown Chakra - Raise the chin further, looking
up as if to heaven, bending back further, bending the knees
to take the weight of the body. Pivot at the thumbs, creating
a triangle above your head. Inhale, and bring the energy to
your hands. Exhale and focus the energy into the crown chakra,
creating a vortex of white energy, expanding into the entire
energy cocoon.
After Charging the Chakras
After charging the seventh chakra:
- Inhale and move your arms to shoulder height then bring
them together in front of you, palms up with elbows slightly
bent, as if to catch a ball dropped from above. Exhale and
visualize yourself catching the blessings of the Divine pouring
down upon you.
- With your arms still at shoulder height, inhale and open
them to the sides as wide as possible, palms forward, expanding
the rib cage and opening the heart. Exhale and imagine Divine
love entering your heart.
- Inhale and open the arms bringing them behind the back,
exhale and clasp the hands together at the sacrum. Inhale,
straighten the arms pushing downwards, bring the shoulders
back and tighten the PC muscle. Visualize energy going from
the root of the spine into your crown chakra. Exhale, relax
the PC muscle, and move the energy down the front of your
body, returning to the navel chakra.
Follow this entire sequence of Sacred Energy Alchemy movements
three times. Move slowly and deliberately, as if moving the
hands through honey. The actual practice of the energy clearing
and chakra charging techniques takes only a few minutes to
perform, and yet the benefits can be profound. This practice
is an oasis from stress, emotional and physical strain, fatigue
and spiritual disconnection, returning you to a state of harmony
and balance. With regular practice, you are preparing your
body to handle higher levels of energy that provide the basis
for strengthening the body, mind and spirit.
Always available to my inner perception and ready to take
me through each unique training session, and teach those who
join me, Master Chia has been with me daily for the past 3
years. During this time, each instructional session has never
been duplicated, yet the principles behind this instruction
remain consistent. My body has been healed, strengthened, and
transmuted from the inner core. If you feel moved to explore
and practice the Sacred Energy Alchemy of Master Chia, it is
his promise to instruct and support your journey of transformation.
